Nutritious Food at School

Did you know…

With support from the province’s Feeding Futures funding, food access is provided at 9 school sites through 11 programs. Additional financial contributions from the Powell River Firefighter’s Association and the Breakfast Club of Canada, along with food donations from community partners such as Pacific Point, help keep these initiatives going.

The most popular distributed food items include granola bars, fruit, and cheese. Soup is served daily at 4 schools, while all schools offer lunch programs. These programs are open-access, meaning any student who wants food can receive it. School food programs not only provide nutritious meals but also help strengthen connections with peers and school staff, and alleviate financial and time pressures for families.

Research shows that well-nourished students are more likely to attend school regularly, have improved academic outcomes, and experience improved physical and mental health. By ensuring access to nutritious foods, school food programs help students stay focused, engaged, and ready to learn and play.

Stay tuned for something exciting, delicious, and nutritious happening tomorrow!šŸ
