ʔimot ɬaʔamɩn t̓ᶿokʷ (Happy Tla’amin Day)

Today, we reaffirm our commitment to learning and unlearning as we work toward decolonization and Indigenization in our schools. Through truth, healing, celebration, and reconciliation, we strive to create inclusive learning environments that reflect and respect Tla'amin knowledge, culture, and history.
Tla’amin Day was celebrated in schools on Friday, April 4th. In addition to learning in the classrooms and participating in school-wide drumming and singing circles, students engaged in a variety of thoughtful and meaningful activities. These included both virtual and in-person assemblies, time spent outdoors connecting with nature, listening to local stories, and participating in interactive language experiences such as an ʔayʔajuθəm scavenger hunt and colouring with sticker-labeled pencil crayons! The students over at Brooks Secondary launched a special “Coffee and Culture” initiative by adding an ʔayʔajuθəm word or phrase to every coffee cup at the Thunderbird Cafe. Each cup also featured a QR code linking to First Voices to help with pronunciation.
It was a day of learning, reflection, and celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the ɬaʔamɩn Nation.
