School Profile

Westview Elementary is a Kindergarten to Grade 7 neighbourhood school located in the heart of the Westview community in Powell River, British Columbia. We serve approximately 350 students across 15 divisions and are proud to be part of the qathet School District (SD47).

Opened in 2013, Westview is a modern, LEED-certified school designed to support collaboration, inclusion, and student learning. While our building is relatively new, our roots extend back to Grief Point School, which served the community for nearly 60 years.

Our Mission

At Westview Elementary, we are committed to creating a safe, caring, and inclusive learning environment where every student feels a sense of belonging and is supported to reach their full potential.

The Westview Way

Our school community is guided by four shared expectations:

- Be Kind

- Be Safe

- Be Respectful

- Be Responsible

These values provide a common foundation for learning, relationships, and decision-making throughout our school.

Learning at Westview

We believe that all students can learn and succeed when provided with high-quality instruction, meaningful relationships, and appropriate supports. Our work is grounded in the British Columbia curriculum and focuses on developing strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, creativity, and communication.

Students have opportunities to participate in a wide range of learning experiences, including:

- Literacy and numeracy instruction

- Fine arts and music

- Physical education

- Outdoor learning opportunities

- Leadership development

- Indigenous learning experiences

- Student support services

School Culture

Westview is known for its strong sense of community and belonging. We believe that relationships matter and that every student deserves to feel known, valued, and connected.

Students participate in school-wide activities, assemblies, leadership opportunities, house team events, and monthly character themes that help foster positive citizenship and school pride.

Indigenous Learning and Reconciliation

Westview Elementary is located on the traditional and treaty territory of the Tla'amin Nation. We are committed to ongoing learning, relationship-building, and reconciliation through authentic integration of Indigenous perspectives, local history, language, and culture.

Family and Community Partnerships

We recognize that education is most successful when schools and families work together. Westview values strong partnerships with parents, caregivers, community organizations, and the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) to support student success and well-being.
