Early Learning
At Westview Elementary, we believe that learning begins long before children enter Kindergarten. Strong early learning experiences help children build confidence, develop relationships, explore their world, and establish the foundations for future success in school.
We are proud to support young learners and their families as they prepare for the transition to school through a variety of early learning opportunities and community partnerships.
Supporting a Strong Start
The early years are an important time for growth and development. During these years, children develop language, social skills, self-regulation, curiosity, and independence—all essential building blocks for lifelong learning.
Our goal is to help children and families feel welcomed, connected, and confident as they begin their educational journey.
StrongStart BC
StrongStart BC is a free, drop-in early learning program for children from birth to five years of age accompanied by a parent, caregiver, or guardian.
StrongStart provides opportunities for children to:
- Explore through play
- Develop early literacy and numeracy skills
- Build social and communication skills
- Participate in songs, stories, art, and hands-on activities
- Become familiar with a school environment
StrongStart also provides opportunities for families to connect with one another, learn about child development, and access community resources.
Westview StrongStart runs Monday-Friday from 8:45am-11:45am. Our StrongStart facilitator is Danielle Cazes.
For more information on registration, attendance and other StrongStart locations, please visit the district StrongStart page.
Just B4
Just B4 is a school readiness program designed for children in the year before Kindergarten.
Through engaging and developmentally appropriate activities, children have opportunities to:
- Become comfortable in a school setting
- Build routines and independence
- Develop early literacy and numeracy skills
- Strengthen social and emotional skills
- Build confidence as future learners
The program helps create positive connections between children, families, and the school community prior to entering Kindergarten.
Welcome to Kindergarten
Each spring, Westview hosts Welcome to Kindergarten activities to help children and families prepare for the transition to school.
These opportunities allow future students to:
- Visit the school
- Meet staff and other students
- Explore learning spaces
- Begin building familiarity and confidence before their first day
Families also receive information about school routines, expectations, and ways to support learning at home.
A Smooth Transition to School
Starting school is an exciting milestone for both children and families.
At Westview, we work closely with families, preschool programs, childcare providers, StrongStart, and district staff to support a smooth and successful transition into Kindergarten. We recognize that every child arrives with unique strengths and experiences, and we are committed to helping each learner feel welcomed, safe, and ready to learn.
