Dean Thorsell, PrincipalDean%20Thorsell1-1.jpegDean holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Physical Education, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Vancouver Island University. With 10 years of experience in education, he has primarily served as a teacher and physical education instructor but has also held roles as the District Coordinator of Active Living and Mental Health and as a Vice-Principal at Westview Elementary.

Dean's leadership style is rooted in servant leadership, believing that when teachers and students feel heard, supported, and welcomed, student outcomes improve. He also embraces transformational leadership, continuously learning about education and driving change and improvement in every position he holds.

As the new principal of Henderson Elementary, Dean is motivated by the belief that building strong relationships and fostering teamwork within the school community can enhance student success. When caregivers are involved in student's education, they will thrive.

His vision for Henderson this year is to build on the school's successes in community building and to further improve academic outcomes, particularly in literacy. Dean is excited to inspire and empower students to achieve their fullest potential, both academically and personally. He looks forward to collaborating with staff, parents, and the community to create a supportive and inclusive environment at Henderson Elementary.
