Our Coordinator


The qathet School District 47 International Student Program homestay coordinator’s role is to oversee the welfare of each student by helping them settle into their homestay life in Powell River.


What does the coordinator do?

  • Personally meets, interviews and visits the home of each host family to select families. 
  • Selects families that will ensure the safety, security, comfort and true Canadian experience of all Powell River International students.
  • Gets to know each student and family. 
  • Has an office at Brooks Secondary School is and readily available for international students in providing support.
  • Available for host families and students to help resolve issues or to deal with emergencies.
  • Helps settle the students in with the families, create their programs and helps the students navigate all aspects of being a student and newcomer to Canada. 
  • Arranges health care and communicates the process to families and students.
  • Works towards making the best possible match between student interests and the needs of their homestay family to ensure the greatest level of student and family comfort and happiness.

Homestay families play an integral role in the successful immersion of the international student into Canadian Culture. The primary goal in placing a student with a Canadian family is to give international students the best opportunity to experience Canadian life while developing their English language skills and fulfilling the goals of their experience. 

The homestay coordinator along with the international student program administrator are committed to personally supporting each and every student and homestay family.
