Policies
Physical & Health Education
PHE is a vital part of the school curriculum and every child is expected to participate unless properly excused. A doctor's note will be required should a student be physically unable to take part in PHE over an extended period of time. On a short term basis for colds or minor problems a parent note will suffice. Gym strip, T-shirt, shorts and sneakers, are expected and required to be at school. Physical fitness is important to good health and promotes learning.
School Bus Behavior
Riding on the school bus is a privilege not a right.
Safety is an important concern and to that end we require some basic rules of behavior on the bus.
- No eating or drinking on the bus
- Hands MUST be kept inside the bus at all times
- No objects are to be thrown in or out of the bus
- Students must remain seated, facing forward, until the bus comes to a complete halt
- Volume on the bus should be kept to a reasonable level; no shouting or screaming
- No vandalism, including ripping, tearing or cutting seats, no graffiti
- Good manners and behaviors must be displayed at all times.
Most bus routes have camera footage that can be reviewed should an issue arise. Any student who disregards these rules will be referred to the administration. Serious misbehavior or repeated infractions will result in suspension from the bus.
School Ground Leaving Policy
The Kelly Creek Community School is a closed campus. All students must remain on the school grounds until they board their regular bus. Students who walk must go straight home after dismissal.
Boundaries
Students are required to remain on the school grounds during school hours. Students are not allowed to play in the wooded areas surrounding the school grounds. Students are not allowed to use the school gym without direct adult supervision. The school roof is strictly out of bounds.
Bicycle & Wheels Permissions and Safety
No wheels (bicycles, skateboards, scooters) are not to be ridden on the school grounds during school hours (including 30 minutes before and after school) unless expressly permitted (eg. Bike Week).
Please review bicycle safety rules with your child if they are riding a bicycle to school. Cyclists must always ride single file with the traffic and obey the rules of the road. Please be aware that British Columbia has a mandatory bicycle helmet rule now in force.
All bicycles are to be parked in the bike rack in the out-of-bounds area and should be locked.
Snowballs
District policy does not permit snowball throwing on school property.
School Visitors
When visiting the school or a classroom check in with the office as you arrive. If you send someone to pick up your child please inform the office beforehand.
Telephone Use
The office phones are very busy and are in constant demand. We ask that students obtain a permission slip from their teacher to use the phone in the cases of special need. Forgetting lunches, work or instruments does not require a phone call home, as teachers and classrooms are well-prepared for these occurrences and we have a lunch program. We request that all after school plans be made well in advance.
