Celebrating Sustainability: qSD Student ECO Team Year-End Gathering

Today, students from across the district, including James Thomson, Edgehill, Henderson, Westview, and Brooks came together for a year-end gathering focused on celebration, connection, and building skills for sustainability. The event offered students a chance to reflect on their year, share their learnings, and grow their environmental leadership.
The day kicked off with a gallery walk, where each school presented a “year in review”, showcasing their ECO team projects and sustainability efforts.
The second gallery walk that followed introduced students to the concept of marine debris through an interactive display created by the Brooks Environmental Education class.
Students explored different sea organisms, learned about their roles in the ecosystems, and got a chance to engage in hands-on activities at four different stations, each one focused on a specific sea creature.
Working in groups, students selected pieces of debris to collaboratively shape into that creature on the field. Once complete, the Brooks Environmental Education students led thoughtful circle discussions with the elementary students, asking questions such as:
How might this animal be affected by marine debris?
How long might some of this debris persist in the environment?
What role does this organism serve in its ecosystem?
It was a day of sharing, learning, and working together, all while celebrating the impact of student-led sustainability efforts and inspiring more action for the future. Thank you to the ECO team teachers, Brooks mentors, and students for all their hard work today and throughout the whole school year.
This event is just one of the many ways the district brings its sustainability plan to life. If you're interested in reading more about the District's Sustainability Plan, click here.
