Principal & Vice-Principal Bios


Jasmin Marshman, PrincipalJasmin%20Marshman.pngJasmin Marshman is the Principal at Brooks Secondary. A resident in the qathet region since her teen years, Jasmin graduated from Max Cameron Secondary and then went on to earn a Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Victoria and a Master’s in Rural Education from James Cook University.  

Jasmin then returned home to begin her teaching career with qathet School District and after 6 years of teaching almost every grade and subject in the classroom, she transitioned into educational leadership. She was first awarded the Vice-Principal position with Grief Point and then James Thomson, and shortly thereafter transitioned to become Principal there for 8 years. While at JT, Jasmin was instrumental in building out the then newly created French Immersion program as well as running the Indigenous Legacy Project along with Tla’amin Nation.  

Principalship at Henderson followed, and now she is proud to lead the Brooks team. Jasmin is deeply committed to supporting children in their learning and teachers in their work and approaches all of it with the unwavering lens that schools were built for children to learn in and that nothing else matters besides ensuring that children are benefited academically, socially, and emotionally while they are there. 


Michelle Doyle, Vice-Principal

Michelle Doyle became Vice-Principal of Brooks Secondary in 2021. She earned her bachelor’s degree from University of Alberta and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Royal Roads University.  

Michelle began her career as a classroom teacher in Alberta and has spent 26 years teaching every grade from kindergarten to senior English. She has also had teaching and leadership positions at international schools in Japan, Turkey, and most recently Saudi Arabia.  

Michelle joined qathet School District in 2003 and has been focused on creating an educational experience where all students and families feel welcomed, supported, and inspired. 


Lisa Gunn, Vice-Principal

Jasmin%20Marshman.pngLisa has an extensive educational background, having earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Victoria, a Master of Arts from Carleton University, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia. 

Lisa’s teaching career started in the UK following her teacher certification in 2003. After teaching geography classes at a Comprehensive School outside London for a year, she returned to qathet and started teaching at Brooks Secondary. She was the Social Studies Department Head for many years leading up to 2016 when she was appointed as one of Brooks' Vice-Principals. She was in her VP role until 2019, then moved to James Thomson Elementary as Principal in the fall of 2019, where she remained until the fall of 2021. 

From 2022 until 2024, Lisa was a UBC Faculty Advisor and Vancouver Island University Field Experience Supervisor for teacher candidates completing their certification practicums in qathet School District. 

Working with high school students daily and getting to witness their personal growth and transformation is a particularly special aspect of her work, and she is excited to be back in this vibrant school community.
