PROGRAM OPTIONS

At PIE, we have two options for you to consider:

Home-Based Learning

Home-based learning is for learners who want to primarily learn at home. These learners are often supported by accessing third party service providers such as art or swimming lessons. Supervision and facilitation of daily learning is organized by the parent, with support and regular check-ins with your assigned PIE teacher.

Parents work together with the teacher to develop an individualized Student Learning Plan (SLP) for each child based on grade-specific learning standardsThe curriculum is set by the BC Ministry of Education and PIE teachers will help students and parents find meaningful and engaging ways to approach the curriculum and show what they know.

Work samples are presented to the teacher for assessment and Learning Updates are issued based on these samples

We strive to establish a relationship with you that feels collaborative – we want to support you with facilitating your child’s learning journey, however that may look.

Funding - Home-Based Learners can access up to $600 per child to support learning at home and in the community. Additional resources are available for students with a Ministry designation to help them meet the goals and objectives of their Inclusive Education Plan (IEP). Your child’s Learning Support Teacher will work with you to create the plan and allocate resources based on the needs of your child.

In-Person Opportunities

At PIE we offer programs with In-Person Opportunities in many locations throughout B.C. which are led by our teachers.

All programs are designed to foster positive relationships with an attachment-based foundation in a calm and caring classroom environment where students have choice and autonomy in their learning.

Attendance is always optional, with a high level of expectation that students follow the teacher’s lead and are kind and inclusive toward all others following our Code of Conduct. Parents are always welcome to attend as well, especially if their child wants or needs them.

In-Person Opportunities are designed to augment the home learning experience and do not cover the entire curriculum. Teachers plan engaging and fun learning activities across many areas of study, and parents are responsible for organizing the rest of the learning at home, and by arranging learning opportunities with third party service providers, as outlined in the child’s Learning Plan.
