Indigenous-Focused Learning Day

InEd Learning Day

This past Friday, qathet School District staff members attended an Indigenous-Focused Professional Development day, where they listened to a keynote delivered by Dr. Brad Baker, Superintendent of Indigenous Education for the Ministry of Education and Child Care BC, participated in a Q&A with a panel of Indigenous Peoples, and joined various smaller learning sessions. These sessions covered topics such as the First Peoples Principles of Learning, Tla’amin Archeology, ʔayʔajuθəm Orthography, Anti-Racist Strategies, First Nations Map Exploration, and Courageous Dialogue, among many others.

A big thank you to the Tla’amin Nation community members, the qSD Indigenous Education team and staff who planned and organized this important day of learning, and to all who participated. We are so grateful for the opportunity to learn, unlearn, and courageously work together towards decolonization and indigenization through truth, healing, celebration and reconciliation.
