It’s Bike to School Week!

GoByBike Week

From June 2-6, schools across BC are invited to take part in Bike to School Week! This annual event is a province-wide celebration of active school travel that encourages students and families to swap car rides for bikes rides and enjoy the many benefits that come with it.

Why bike to school?

Cycling offers a fun, healthy, and sustainable way to start the day. By participating, students:

  • Boost their physical fitness and mental focus
  • Gain road safety awareness and confidence navigating streets
  • Contribute to building safer and more connected school communities
  • Help reduce traffic congestion

Additionally, students and staff can ride their bikes & win fun local prizes through a local community cycling challenge put on by the qathet Regional Cycling Association. Stop by the Celebration Station at First Credit Union between 7:30-9:30am on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (June 3rd, 4th, or 5th) by bicycle to be entered to win local prizes. If you can't make it to the Celebration Station, you can still enter the prize draw by visiting Taws Bike Garage or Suncoast Cycles. Just fill out a short form and write one sentence about why you enjoy biking!

Always wear your helmets, remember to look both ways before crossing any streets, and have fun!
