Bring Your Own Device

Purpose

qathet School District is committed to prepare all students and teachers to maximize learning by fully integrating relevant technology into academic content to acquire, share and evaluate information, achieve media and technology literacy, and maintain a safe and ethical environment. Added benefits of this plan will allow eventual access to digital textbook supplemental materials and increase access to learning content.

The Plan

Beginning in November 2012, all students may begin bringing their own technology tools to their designated classes. Users are required to accept the following terms of use prior to connecting to the qathet School District student network:

qathet School District is providing wireless connectivity as a student service and offers no guarantees that any use of the wireless connection is in any way secure, or that any privacy can be protected when using this wireless connection.

Use of the SD47-BYOD wireless network is entirely at the risk of the user, and qathet School District is not responsible for any loss of any information that may arise from the use of the wireless connection, or for any loss, injury or damages resulting from the use of the wireless connection.

Once on the WiFi network, all users will have filtered internet access just as they would on any other PLNet connected device. All teacher users will be filtered at the student level when using personal technology devices.

Getting Started

The first time connecting to the SD47-BYOD network, users (Staff, Student and Guest) will be prompted for their qathet School District username and password.  This is the same username and password that you use to get onto district computers and/or email.  If prompted to trust the *.sd47.bc.ca certificate, press or click on trust.

Once you've sucessfully logged in, your device can now be used at any qathet School Distict site where the SD47-BYOD network is visible.  You should only be asked to re-enter your login credientials if you've changed your password.

Android Users

Some Andriod devices (thanks to the mismash of configurations and OS versions from the various vendors) may require additional information to connect:

For "EAP method" select "PEAP".

For "Phase 2 authentication" select "MSCHAPV2".

Enter your Identity as your username plus "@sd47.bc.ca", or put "SD47\" in front of your username.

Some devices may have an "Anonymous identity" field. Leave this blank.

Enter your password.

Touch "Connect".
